Starbucks and the Solomon Islands

"Therefore, encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing."
I Thes. 5:11

While we're still "unplugged" and resting, I wanted to share about a very generous Starbucks manager in Conway, Arkansas.

Every two years, SITAG (Solomon Islands Translation Advisory Group) holds a series of meetings over the course of about nine days.  In 2011, many people donated treats for our morning and afternoon "tea" breaks (remember, the Solomon Islands are part of the British Commonwealth) and encouraged our branch with their thoughtfulness.  This year, my mother ordered several cases of Starbucks Via to enrich our meetings.  When she went to pay and pick up her order, the manager donated everything free of charge.

Drinking coffee that tastes like "home" may seem like a small thing.  But when you've just returned from a village stay, and you are exhausted, sitting down to sweet fellowship with a cup of coffee in hand in between meetings is one of the most refreshing things you can do.  It's little acts of kindness and encouragement that keep people like us on the field.
