Showing up on a Saturday

"There is power in the little things we do every day to show up to our neighborhoods and workplace and intimate relationship with love and compassion and curiosity."

When I was volunteering at CARTI last week, one of the chemo nurses (the one who gave me the beautiful cello mug) mentioned that her husband was out of town for a long weekend. Saturday morning, on a whim, or maybe it was my Holy Spirit hearing aids, I texted Katie around 6:30 to see if she wanted to join me at the farmers market later. She responded almost immediately with an emphatic yes. Introducing her to some of my favorite people (both vendors and students who happened to be there) was super fun. I also found this adorable handmade truck carrying three cars at Cloud of Sawdust Farms, so I used some cello money to add it to our collection. We're slowly building a stash of things for young visitors to enjoy at our house.

After a busy Saturday morning, I took a few moments to sit on our back patio to enjoy our half price end of summer flowers and to read just a little bit more before Katherine and I dove into the work of the day. I was supposed to meet with a young mom for coffee, but she needed to cancel at the last minute. So I met with Jesus and coffee instead. Our family has started the Bible Project's "Books of the Bible" plan to read through the Bible in a year.

One of the items on our to-do list was to make a flourless chocolate roulade for the women's potluck at church. We have several ladies in our fellowship who are gluten free, and this cake is absolutely delicious. Katherine used her skills and creativity to offer something tasty and compassionate for our community.
