Today was the last day of school before the Christmas/visitor break.
Katherine's science experiment during the last week was to mix sugar and water and to watch the sugar crystals form. Usually, in the Solomon Islands' humidity, these types of experiments fail miserably, but this time some crystals actually formed.
We put three pie tins of colored sugar water on top of the refrigerator, hoping the extra heat rising from the flame at the back would help the water evaporate. We also discovered that kukuia (tiny brown ants) really liked the science experiment, so the top of the fridge was covered with ants by the time the experiment finished.
But Katherine really enjoyed the results of her school work, and I think she learned a little bit, too.
