I forgot to mention a great book we read in preparation for our trip to the Dogwood Canyon Audubon Center yesterday.  Kathryn Lasky always writes great historical fiction for children, and "She's Wearing a Dead Bird on Her Head" is no exception.  This picture book made us smile as we read about the founders of the Massachusetts Audubon Society and their work to protect birds at the turn of the 20th century.

We also like "The Boy Who Drew Birds:  A Story of John James Audubon", but our copy is in the village right now.
