Texas Woman's Daybook

Just for today...Tuesday, April 16

Outside my window...newly transplanted "Luscious Berry Blend" lantana.  The pinks and yellows remind me of when I was first introduced to lantana during Aaron's seminary days.  Our dear neighbor split the cost of flowers, and we always planted lots of pretty colors in front of our apartments.
Noticing that...I'm really struggling with all the chaos and mess of moving, and it's just beginning
A heart of thankfulness...for yet another safe trip last weekend and for God's provision for finances for the trip.  He always takes such good care of us!
Something I want to remember for later...Aaron took off Katherine's training wheels yesterday, and she's riding like she's been doing this all her life
Pondering these words... "Happiness, not the fleeting kinds - the occasional good day - but the bounding-out-of-bed-glad-to-be-alive-kind, comes from running toward where God is ultimately taking us.  The real source of all our unhappiness is due to the fact that we are running elsewhere."
~Lydia Brownback
From the kitchen...yesterday we were so blessed to receive a phone call from some friends while we were still on the road toward home: "We just made some calzones for your family!"  How nice to come home from a trip and have supper already prepared.
Around the house...I finally got some vintage pillowcases washed and dried in the sun today. (My mother-in-law's secret for washing vintage linens?  Equal parts Clorox 2 and Ivory dishwashing liquid.)  Now to pull out the iron and find some pillows that need cheering up!
From the learning rooms...finishing up with WW1 and heading into the 1920's, so we're enjoying some fun paper dolls and a few of the many books out there:  "The Great Migration: An American Story" by Jacob Lawrence, "Marven of the Great North Woods" by Kathryn Lasky, "You Want Women to Vote, Lizzie Stanton?" by Jean Fritz, "A River of Words:  The Story of William Carlos Williams" by Jen Bryant,  "America, I Hear You: A Story About George Gershwin" by Barbara Mitchell, and lots of The American Adventure series, "The Flu Epidemic" and "Women Win the Vote" both by JoAnn A. Grote
A few plans for the rest of the week...some company tonight to celebrate a birthday we missed over the weekend, helping out with a Wycliffe family later in the week as they prepare to move, and a "I've finished my MA in linguistics" celebratory brunch on Saturday with another family.
A peek into my corner of the world...our tree that began with bare branches at the beginning of Lent is growing more and more leaves and blossoms are beginning to appear.
Soon, the fruit of the Spirit will start growing as we get close to Pentecost.

Way to go, Katherine! It takes a keen eye to notice that Katherine is not only riding her bike like a pro w/o training wheels, but also while wearing her special shoes (I'm sorry I don't know how to spell their name: Bix Box?)! That's something!
Beautiful!

Love the pics and the peek into your life. :D

The changes and moving must be bittersweet - praying it all goes smoothly.

Kayla,
I think it's "Bik Bok" because of the sound high heeled shoes make in Paul Shower's book, "The Listening Walk". I love that Katherine loves to wear her tutu, tights, socks, and her "bik boks" to ride her bike :-)

Julie,
It is bittersweet. One foot in each country has its joys and sorrows. We covet your prayers for wisdom and soft hearts!

Oh, the lantana, the linens, and the Lenten tree. So lovely! I need to remember the tree for next year. It's such a good idea -- especially for our little ones.

Blessings!
