T-minus seven hours...

We will begin loading the truck in just a little while, and we hope to be pulling out of the wharf in about seven hours (about 2 a.m. Central time).  This is the first time we have taken the "short trip", which is a little bit of a misnomer.  Usually, the Kosco goes all the way out West (the "long trip"), stopping in the Russell Islands on the way out and on the return trip.  This trip often takes around a week.  This time, the boat is only going to the Russell Islands, but instead of stopping at two village, Yandina and Marulaon, it will stop at just about every single village to pick up timber or copra (our two main cash crops) to take back to Honiara.  We have no idea what time we will arrive in our village.  There is a rumor that we will arrive around daylight, which means 12-13 hours on the ship, plus a few hours sitting on the deck holding our place and waiting for the boat to leave.  Daylight is good, even though it means more time on the boat.  Unloading all of our boxes over the side of the ship down a rope ladder in open water in the middle of the night might present some difficulties!

A big thanks to my friend, Ann, who will be blogging for me while we are in the village.  We plan to return in about twelve weeks.
