Not for the squeamish...

Thank you for all of your prayers and e-mails during the last few days. Today is the last day of my malaria treatment, and my leg continues to heal. Lots of you have asked for updated pictures of my leg, and I've been hesitant to post them. Even though my leg looks worse, it is soooo much better. The swelling is down, and the skin is no longer so tender to the touch. I was even able to start some laundry this morning! The white on my leg is from the antibacterial powder and the "shiny" is from the lanolin I used to alleviate the dry skin. Please do not worry! Every day I'm a little bit better, and God has placed great neighbors around us. Aaron is a gem of a husband, and the kids are quite competent. So, if you're not too squeamish, scroll down for a current picture of my leg...

"My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever." Psalm 73:26

Any idea what it was? Was it an alien lifeform, or was it the last of the Memphis Toxins getting out of your system?

I am left curious as to what it is, as well.

Did you ever get a definitive diagnosis?

Joanna, Although I haven't posted, I have kept up with your family's travels, your training, as well as your trauma with this horrible invasion into your tissues. I also have things put aside to mail to you, but as with many other things this fall, the job I intended to get done long before now, just hasn't been completed. I'm also on leave from writing for a while, due to flares with the Behcet's disease. I will probably go ahead and mail your Christmas card and follow with the package later. You may be getting it for St. Valentine's Day instead of Christmas!

My niece, LaNette Whiteside, called this evening and asked for your blog address so she could keep up with you (I had sent prayer requests to her for your recovery from the malaria and the leg infection or cellulitis. She teaches a group of adults---actually my mother's Sunday School class that she taught when she was still living. On this past Sunday, the lesson was on missions and sacrificial giving to accomplish the task, and LaNette used you and your family to illustrate the passion it takes to go, to share, and to sacrifice for God in difficult circumstances. She will probably email you and tell you more about it (I hope she will. I am sending her your blog addy, and told her your email addy could be found on the site.) She's probably my favorite niece, mostly because I took care of her a lot after she was born and up until I left for college when she was 6 years old. She's pretty special. Kenda and James call her, "Aunt LaNette."

Ok, this was only supposed to be a short comment, and I'm not even sure I'm allowed this many words in this little box, so I need to go. Know that you are in our hearts and prayers and that we share your needs with those who we know will lift them before our Father.

Hope you have a restful, healing week ahead! (The verse you quoted is one I have taped in my bathroom and also directly in front of me on my desk. With Behcet's disease I have bouts of vasculitis---sort of like cellulitis (and sometimes it turns into cellulitis). That is what has kept me down and off my feet (and not writing) all this fall. Vasculitis can cause lesions to form that are black (necrotic) in the middle like the sore on your leg. I had one on my thigh once that was 9 inches in diameter. I think Psalm 73:26 is such a great verse to claim during times like these. I like the New Living Translation that says, "My health my fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the STRENGTH of my heart; He is MINE FOREVER." (I'd like to take away that period and put an EXCLAIMATION MARK at the end of that sentence! How about you? ;-)

Love you much!
Pat
