September 11th

When my children's choir went to New York City in the summer of 2013, we jumped at the chance for our group of students to visit the 9/11 memorial.

My kids are too young to remember what they were doing (or they weren't even born yet), so it was really important to me for them to absorb as much as possible the events of that day.

The subject matter is hard.  I still get weepy when I think about all of the men and women whose lives were changed forever.

We've found a few child-friendly books that help us remember and discuss what happened on September 11, 2001:

These are books that belong on every bookshelf any day of year, but especially today, I'm putting these books into the basket and revisiting and crying and holding my kids tightly.

Joanna, it breaks my heart too, every year. Glad your kids got to see the Memorial.
